I had never noticed before, but our house does not have gutters. (Nothing like torrential rain to make you pay attention to your gutters, huh?) The water pooled where the concrete meets the grass, and got so bad that it came within about 2 feet of our back door, about 3 inches at its deepest.
That's when I was reminded (yet again...) that I have the best husband ever. Not only did he quickly realize that digging a trench would be the proper solution, but he immediately set out to do it.
The water still drips heavily off of the patio, but now it just runs peacefully in a little mini creek around the yard, down in to the dog run, then out into the alley.
Looks like we have some long term work to do in the back yard...
