April, 2013:
- We surprise Grammy with a trip to visit them and go to the Clovis Rodeo. Owen has fun at the parade and sweating at the rodeo with Dada, Grandpa, Uncle Justin, Miller, Uncle Rob and Baby John.
- Owen starts walking
- Owen goes to his first basketball game to watch Luke play
- Easter is at our house with Grammy and Grandpa and Uncle Rob, Aunt Miranda and Baby John coming from Fresno and all of our family here.
May, 2013:
- Celebrate Mother's Day by having Freebirds and going to Mother's Market in Orange County
- Owen is more adventurous about running and crawling in the grass outside
- Mama finishes her first year of job sharing with Jena Kerr in 2nd grade excited to be with Owen all summer, but with no idea of what will happen next year
- Mama makes "Summer goals" poster to make sure lots of work and fun get done
June, 2013:
- Trip to Fresno for Dada's birthday, we take Delaney. Both Owen and Delaney get to drive the truck for the first time. Owen enjoys being outside getting dirty with Miller and his Uncles.
- First taste of frozen yogurt with Aunt Judy
- Pops gets Dada tickets to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at one of their "Six Night Stand" shows at the tiny Henry Fonda theater in LA. It is SUPER packed and Mama forgot how tiring it is to stand around before, during and after a standing room only show. But the show is AMAZING and such a special experience.
- Mama goes crazy and goes to another concert the next night with Vanessa! They go see Grace Potter and the Nocturnals at the Fox Theater in Pomona. It is another AMAZING show that reminds Mama that it is fun and awesome to like new and live music.
- Owen goes to swimming lessons at Aunt Judy's with the Blades and Brown kids. He likes being in the pool but not in the floaty thing Gramma got him. He mostly just hangs out in the pool/penalty box (he doesn't know that someday it will be a punishment to be in here!) while the kids practice diving and swimming. Caleb goes from being very nervous to an awesome diver and swimmer!
- Aunt Kate comes to visit and we get to do lots of fun things. Mama and Aunt Kate get to go with Aunt Judy to have massages. We go with Gramma and Pops and Aunt Kate and Isa to stay at Liberty Station in San Diego. Owen has fun entertaining everyone as we hang out in the suite.
July, 2013:
- Owen goes to his first movie to see "Monster's University" with all of his cousins (including Madison!) He also gets to have Luke and Caleb ride in his truck as we go to In N Out for lunch.
- Aunt Judy and Gramma help us get our house ready and decorate for our annual 4th of July Party. We get a new-to-us set of bunkbeds and decorate what will be Owen's big boy room.
- We are so excited that Uncle Justin, Aunt Kelly, Miller and Ryder get to come stay with us and go to our 4th of July party. We love that it's a tradition and that everyone just comes. The most fun was playing at the park with Owen, Dada, Uncle Justin and all of the kids.
- Owen gets to meet Mama's old friend Aubrey when she comes to visit with all of her kids. It is so special to have them here after so long, but it makes Mama sad too, how much she loves having them around. Owen gets to go swimming with them, and have Miguel's for Sunday lunch.
- Madison gets sick and can't go with her family to Cayucos, so Mama gets recruited to drive her and the Brown's jeep to the coast. Mama and Owen get to go on vacation a few days early and stay with the Blades and Browns in their fancy beach house before Dada comes up and we stay at a hotel. Owen loves the fruit and the animals at Avila farms, gets really good at walking on the beach, and loves having all of his cousins around all the time to play with. Mama loves having Sylvester's and Brown Butter Cookie Company and that Owen is still a pretty good sleeper while on vacation. Dada loves being in the ocean and not having to work.
- As soon as we get back from vacation, Mama has to go back to school. It turns out that she will teach full time for half of the year (August-December) and then be off full time for the second half of the year. She will be teaching third grade and has to completely build up a classroom and learn a new curriculum in a very short time.
- Owen gets his first big boy hair cut from Nicole and looks SO much bigger!
- We take one last trip to San Diego/Sea World before school starts and have a great experience. Owen gets his first really big trash truck from the TJ Maxx on Rosecranz.
August, 2013:
- Mama and Owen "celebrate" the first day back to school by having and early breakfast date at Chik-Fil-A.
- Mama realizes that she loves first grade, but does NOT love working full time.
- Dada plans a spontaneous trip to Fresno, which starts out being kind of stressful with Mama working full time, but ends up being exactly what she needed to have fun and relax.
September, 2013:
- Mama and Dada find out another member is coming to the Bryson Lovenest, right around Owen's birthday.
- Owen tries noodles at Vince's for the first time and makes a HUGE mess, but loves them
- Owen's favorite word and food is "Banana" which sounds like "mung-yang-ya"
- Owen gets to take school pictures with mama and it is the best picture of him to date.
October, 2013:
- Owen announces he will be getting a best friend for his second birthday after we have an appointment and see that everything is ok.
- Owen goes to the pumpkin patch but is too tired and hot to take any really good pictures like last year.We spontaneously decide to go to Oak Glen and see Mama's cousins Katie and Bonnie.
- Owen has his scheduled dr appt and everything looks good. We go on as normal, but it turns out that he probably caught roseola while at the dr. He has a fever for a few days (his first, VERY scary and no fun) and then seems better. We go with Aunt Miranda, Uncle Rob and Baby John to the Grow's annual harvest party, but Owen doesn't really seem to be himself. The next day he is very lethargic and covered in red spots. Roseola is a harmless disease that is very common in kids his age, but it is still no fun to see him be to pitiful for the next week.
- Owen survives his first 4 day gospel meeting with flying colors.
- Mama is a minion for Halloween and Owen is a trash man. Owen wears his first pair of real cowboy boots and dada makes him a trash truck attachment for his wagon. He is much admired at at the school parade.
November, 2013:
- Mama really feels pregnant and starts craving salsa with cream cheese and wheat thins.
- Mama comes up with the idea to have a Tater Tot reveal party with a Mr or Miss Potato head theme. We have a baked potato bar and have Auntie (Denise) wrap up either a Mr or Miss Potato head after she seems the sonogram that Mama dropped off in an envelope. Owen gets to open the tin foil to reveal that we will be having a little sister!
- Grammy and Grandpa come stay with us and Owen gets to go on lots of walks and trips to the park with them. Grandpa even gets the trash truck driver to let Owen sit inside! We go with Gracie on her birthday to see Frozen and to Ikea to shop for fun things. (Owen picks out a potty, but only likes to sit on it with his clothes on...)
- Gramma and Pops are in Australia, so Mama, Dada and Owen go to Aunt Minky's for Thanksgiving. It is a lovely day with friends and family and amazing food.
- Dada has the next day off, so we go to Sea World to see the Christmas decorations. We start decorating for Christmas that weekend and have St. Nick's day.
- We have our Elf Party early and Owen loves having all of the cousins at his house. He doesn't understand why they want to watch a movie instead of playing with and talking to him.
- I announce to my students that I won't be coming back after Christmas break and they all take it really well. I finish up on Dec. 19th and it is a bittersweet day. I have really come to love this team and these kids and this grade, but I am MORE than ready to not be working full time and to be home with Owen before little sister comes.
- We go to Grammy and Grandpa's house for Christmas the weekend before Christmas. It is our first Christmas with 4 babies and next year there will be 5! They kids all do so great with opening presents and playing together. They all stay in their matching Christmas jammies all day. Owen starts acting super hungry Saturday night, but we discover in the middle of the night that he wasn't hungry, he had the stomach flu... We wake up to him calmly throwing up in his play pen. We get him all cleaned up and go back to sleep, but he wakes up several times throwing up again. We make the mistake of eating a big lunch at Sal's on Sunday, and then Mama and Dada get sick and we end up having to stay at Grammy and Grandpa's for 3 extra days. Owen does a great job of getting over being sick and having to travel home.
- We come home on Christmas Eve and have Christmas at home (want: a new trash truck, need: a container for his little trucks, wear: a john deere sweatshirt and construction socks and read: a new truck book) and with Gramma and Pops. We also go to Aunt Minky's to play with the chocolate fountain.
- We rest for a few days at home and then go back to visit Grammy and Grandpa
