Thinking about these things makes me sad...

...in a good way, I guess.

  • Granny's basket of make up sitting on the window pane in the bathroom
  • twirling to Paul McCartney's music in the living room
  • living for the sound of shiny shoes tapping on the sidewalk going into church
  • my dad telling me my Bible lesson on Sunday morning before church (I can't remember the lesson, but only the way his lips and teeth looked while telling it)
  • feeling so relieved at 3 years old during that moment when I knew the punishment was over and my mom still loved me
  • texting Kate a line from a show on the off chance she was watching it, and she was and totally got the joke
  • having a BFF necklace with Melissa
  • Gramps' strong arms making my ice cream extra creamy by whipping it in my bowl
  • Kim asking me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding
  • the gum tree
  • waiting for my dad to get home so we could roll a bouncy ball up and down the slide
  • getting in bed with my mom after my dad left for work, then waking up to smiles and trying to decide what we wanted for "brek-pist"
  • the feeling of pieces of a dress being pinned on to me to make sure they were the right size
  • watching Dylan go into Kindergarten (not because I was nervouse for him, but because I wished I was going in with him)
  • calling Gracie my amigo lovie
  • any song on the John Denver and the Muppets Soundtrack
  • that the Sesame Street characters aren't real
  • that the lights on a marquis sign don't know what they are spelling, just that they are supposed to blink at a certain time
  • the taste of cold mini hostess donuts dipped in milk
  • the feeling of a really tight, perfectly positioned, smooth ponytail
  • seeing my parents whisper to each other in the front seat, meaning we were going somewhere special
  • the feeling of being invited to someone's house after church
  • the feeling of falling asleep in the car on the way home from someone's house after church
  • hearing my parent's say "We'll see." This was way better than "maybe."
  • the sound of a sewing machine going full speed
  • the sound of a derailment detecter detecting derailments
  • the sound of the pull chain turning on the carrousel horse lamp
  • the feeling of the gigantic remote in my hand as I type in "24" to watch Sesame Street in the morning
  • the taste of peanut M&M's when your lips are salty and your hair is wet from swimming in Aunt Judy's pool. They have to be in a tiny orange tupperware container and be accompanied by Kool aid.
  • threading 20 needles for Grandma's quilting and leaving them stuck in an ancient velvet pillow

the sound grandpa mints make when they hit the side of that orange bowl.
